Dedicated to patients in Central Florida, Florida Internal Medicine has provided compassionate & expert care for more than three decades. In 1981, Dr. Glen Davis began practicing as a solo Central Florida internist in Driftwood Village in Lake Mary, FL. In 1984, Dr. John Ryan joined the practice, becoming Florida Internal Medicine in 1986. After operating two offices in Longwood, FL, and Lake Mary, FL, for over 20 years, Drs. Davis and Ryan consolidated into the present Lake Mary Medplex office in 2007. In 2019, the physicians were joined by Nicole Rodriguez, a board certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner with primary care focus. Dr. Ryan is also a board-certified internal medicine specialist. In December 2019, Dr. Davis retired from the practice of medicine. Led by Dr. Ryan and Nicole, Florida Internal Medicine continues to be recognized as one of the most respected primary care internal medicine practices in Central Florida.

Becoming a New Patient

If you're interested in becoming a new patient at Florida Internal Medicine, please enter your information or contact our office by phone at 407-333-2503 during office hours to speak with our New Patient Coordinator.

We evaluate potential patients to determine if they are a good match with our practice and the services we offer. Completing office forms, providing medical records or attending an appointment for an initial evaluation does not establish a practitioner-patient relationship. After our initial evaluation, individuals will be notified if they are accepted into the practice as a patient. Sorry about the formality, but we want to avoid misunderstandings.

Our new patient acceptance is limited, and we cannot always accommodate new appointment requests.

Please don't call us if you are enrolled in an HMO Plan. We don't participate in HMO's or "closed panel" PPOs (we are "out of network").

Why don't we participate?

  • If you get health care outside the plan's "network", you have to pay the full cost, since there is always a deductible.

  • These plans usually are limited to a local regions, with reduced or no benefits when you travel elsewhere.

  • HMO Plans make it difficult for doctors to order tests, medicines or specialist referrals (to keep more of the money you pay them.)

Please don't call us either if you have a Medicare Advantage plan. Medicare pays private for-profit insurance companies to run these plans -- with the same issues as HMOs. We don't participate in Medicare Advantage. (See what consumer advocate Clark Howard thinks of Medicare Advantage)

Nicole Rodriguez APRN is welcoming new patients. Dr. John Ryan is NOT accepting new patients.

If you are accepted as a new patient, our New Patient Coordinator will schedule your appointment.  We will need to receive the initial laboratory reports and also have you fill out and return our NEW PATIENTS history form (download here) and INSURANCE - DEMOGRAPHICS form (download here).

Established Patients

CONTACTING US

Dr. Ryan & APRN Nicole Rodriguez can be contacted, by established patients only, during office hours, or when the office is closed, by text, email or video conference. Please read our Telemedicine policy before contacting us.

PHONE: Always place urgent voice calls to the main office number 407-333-2503 whenever the office is closed. Please leave a voicemail message after the tone with your name, patient’s name and telephone number. The provider on call will call you back as soon as they are available.

If you need to, you may leave a non urgent message for the office staff by pressing one of the other voicemail prompts. Please do not use the urgent prompt for the provider on call to ask for prescription refills or appointments.

TEXT & EMAIL: Please send an email to fimstaff@flaintmed.com, for any non-urgent message OR if you wish to have access to the Patient Portal. Please provide us the patient's name & date of birth in any email message sent. The Patient Portal allows you to contact the practice staff and providers by text. You have the ability to securely message us, receive messages, review & update your records and medical information, check your account, request appointments and ask for prescription refills. VIDEO CONFERENCE: Call the office and request that a video appointment be scheduled.  It is our option whether to use video or not for a medical issue, depending on technical and clinical considerations.

These links are monitored continuously during our office hours.  After the office is closed, we can no longer provide a specific return message time, but it is our goal to check text & email several times during the daytime hours. 

Email & text messaging is only available to established patients of Florida Internal Medicine and persons authorized in their chart records to communicate with us.

PRACTICE FORMS

We provide our Established Patients with their next appointment date & time, laboratory requisitions & history update and demographic forms (if needed) at the checkout desk after each office visit. Labs should be obtained and documents (if any) should be completed before coming in for the next appointment. If you did not receive or misplaced these lab forms or documents, please contact our office and we can provide a copy, or ESTABLISHED PATIENTS  history & Insurance-Demographics update forms can be downloaded.

LAB TESTING

Our office will provide you a lab requisition to take to the lab when you get your lab test done; all labs accept our forms. We do not obtain any lab tests in our office.  It is our experience that the following labs send results to our office promptly, call or use the links below for locations and appointments:

Please be advised if you don’t use one of the above labs, we often do not receive reports in time for your appointment. Medicare is accepted by all labs. For private insurance, please check with your insurer for a participating lab.

Take the lab form we give you to the laboratory of your choice at least two (2) weeks prior to your appointment date. Please have water only after midnight the night before testing & drink several glasses of water in the morning before the test to get  accurate results.  You may take your usual medications.

Weight Loss

Nicole is also accepting patient applications for medically supervised weight loss. Diet plans and prescription medications (if indicated) are available.

We have experience in using GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic/Wegovy and Mounjaro/Zepbound.

The weight loss program requires initial screening. Please contact our office by phone at 407-333-2503 during office hours to speak with one of our New Patient Coordinators.
